In 2025, we successfully delivered 12 girls-only Dynamos Cricket Festivals, spread across a wide range of clubs and community hubs. These events provide a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for girls aged 8-11 to experience cricket - many for the very first time.

  • 29 girls' teams participated throughout the summer
  • Fantastic atmosphere with girls having a positive first experience of cricket matches
  • Festivals showcased a welcoming pathway into club cricket and our structured league.

These festivals have become a cornerstone for our entry-level offer and continue to play a key role in increasing the visibility and appeal of the women and girls' game in Derbyshire.

Under 12 Incrediball League

Now in its third year, the U12 Girls' Incrediball Competition once again provided a popular, accessible stepping stone between softball and hardball formats.

  • Featuring 6 teams across the county
  • Played in an 8-a-side format using Incrediballs to develop skills with confidence
  • Emphasis on participation, teamwork, and enjoyment

The competition was slightly altered this year, with a set night of the week for girls' cricket (Tuesdays), allowing for a more consistent schedule. The U12 league continues to deliver consistent development opportunities for young players.

Under 14 Hard Ball League

This season saw the successful launch of the U14 Girls' Hard Ball League - a brand new competitive structure designed to meet the needs of a growing number of players ready to step up to the next level.

  • Strong take-up from clubs with emerging girls' sections
  • Competitive, structured fixtures played across the summer

This new league filled a key gap in our player pathway, helping to retain girls in the game by offering meaningful, age-appropriate competition. The early signs are incredibly promising, with strong club buy-in and player enthusiasm.

U16 Individual Sign-Up Festivals

To maintain engagement for older girls and offer flexible playing opportunities, we ran three U16 individual sign-up festivals during the season.

  • Open to all players regardless of club affiliation
  • Aimed at girls juggling exams, other sports, or part-time work
  • Created mixed teams on the day, fostering new friendships and match experience

These festivals were particularly well received, with players enjoying the relaxed but competitive format. It ensured continued access to the game at a time when many girls can drop out of sport.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 season has underlined the growing appetite for girls’ cricket in Derbyshire. We’ve seen:

  • A 35% increase in female junior participants countywide
  • More clubs than ever launching or expanding their girls’ sections
  • Stronger links with schools and community groups to widen access

We are committed to continuing this upward trajectory into 2026 and beyond, with plans to expand the U12 and U14 leagues, introduce more all-girls club teams, and provide additional coaching and leadership opportunities for young female players.

Thank You!

Our sincere thanks go out to the clubs, coaches, volunteers, parents, and players who made this season such a success. The future of girls' cricket in Derbyshire is bright- this is only the beginning.
