Training Course

Training for Club Safeguarding Officers and Committee Members

The ECB require Club Safeguarding Officers (CSO) to complete two sets of training for them and their club to be compliant:

  • ‘Safe Hands’ face to face workshop which is run by Derbyshire Cricket Foundation Ltd (DCF).
  • Safeguarding Level 2 (SGL2):
    • This is a free online course. (This has replaced the SSR and SYC courses.)

The above courses are valid for 3 years from completion, and must then be renewed to remain compliant.

All CSO’s must also have a current ECB DBS and should be on the DBS Update Service – completing an annual recheck.

If you are a new CSO, both courses and the ECB DBS must be completed prior to the start of the season. It is preferable to do the SGL2 course before the Safe Hands course and we would suggest that this is done as soon as you can if you need to do it.

Safeguarding Level 2 Course

The ECB have introduced the Safeguarding Level 2 (SGL2) online courses which forms the foundation for individuals who hold a specialist role withing cricket. This course is a direct replacement of the Safeguarding for Specialist Roles and Safeguarding Young Cricketer (SYC) course, although the format has changed, and only need completing once the SSR/SYC has expired.

The new course is aimed at those who want and need more knowledge and information on effective safeguarding within your club. The courses are free to complete.

Those individuals in cricket who hold a specialist role should complete the one-hour course and the course assessment to get a certificate: it also will update the Safe Hands Management System that a person is compliant.

If you already have an ECB E-Learning account (also known as Moodle) - you will find the Safeguarding Level 2 course in the 'Safeguarding' section. You can access your E-Learning account here.

If you do not have an ECB E-Learning account, you can register here.

Shortly after registering, you will receive an email containing a link and instructions on how to set up your access on the ECB Login Portal: including setting a password, accepting terms and conditions (please scroll down and check the tick boxes) and selecting your marketing preferences.
