During the six-week summer holidays, Derbyshire Cricket Foundation delivered five weeks of free All Stars and Dynamos cricket across Normanton, Arboretum, Rykneld, Sinfin Moor and King George V parks, engaging 119 participants from across Derby.
The camps gave children an accessible and welcoming opportunity to get active, develop their cricket skills and enjoy the game in their local communities. Coaches were impressed by the talent, enthusiasm and energy shown throughout the summer, and we look forward to welcoming participants into future DCF opportunities.
Waqas Zaheer Khokhar Memorial Tape Ball Tournament
In August, DCF supported the Waqas Zaheer Khokhar Memorial Tape Ball Cricket Tournament, organised by Dany Zaheer in memory of his late brother, Waqas.
DCF worked in partnership with Dany and sponsored the tournament trophies, while Mohsin Ali, City Development Officer, attended on behalf of the Foundation. The event was very well supported, with large numbers from the local community attending to play, watch and support the day.
It was a fantastic community occasion, with DCF’s involvement warmly acknowledged and appreciated throughout.
ECB National Tape Ball Tournament – Blackburn ????
DCF’s women’s and men’s tape ball teams travelled to Blackburn for the ECB National Tape Ball Tournament, with the women competing on 12th September and the men on 13th September. The ECB funded travel and accommodation for the players, helping to make it a fantastic weekend both on and off the pitch.
The women’s team finished 3rd and brought home a trophy, while the men also performed strongly, competing for 3rd place but narrowly falling short. The men also had the memorable opportunity to meet former England fast bowler Devon Malcolm.
Mohsin Ali, City Development Officer and coach of both teams, said: “It was an amazing tournament. Both teams enjoyed the competition, as well as the time away from the game socialising and enjoying the experience together.”
Overall, it was a brilliant weekend of competition, teamwork and community, giving both teams the opportunity to represent Derby on a national stage.
